Metal Chimney-Top Cover and Flue-Cap Update

Project Overview

This project is represented by two photographs of a stone-faced chimney on a waterfront property. One view shows a reddish-brown metal top with pronounced rust-colored streaking along the edge and tools resting beside the flue openings. The other shows a bright metal top cover with a raised rectangular mesh-sided cap and a separate cylindrical vent component. The chimney’s stacked rectangular stone pattern, white trim below the top, surrounding roof forms, and waterfront landscaping connect the two viewpoints. Together, the images document a visible change at the chimney top without implying that the stonework or the entire chimney was rebuilt.

Analysis

The earlier-looking metal top has rust-colored discoloration and streaks down its edge. Tools are resting beside the flue openings. The second view shows a differently configured metal top assembly, with a raised rectangular mesh-sided cap and a separate cylindrical component. The stacked stone facing and white trim below the top remain consistent.

Process

The two viewpoints record the change at the chimney top from opposite sides. In the earlier-looking view, the broad discolored metal surface is exposed around the flue area. The later-looking view shows a bright fitted top with raised vent components above it. The stone-facing pattern, nearby roof forms, and waterfront grounds connect the photographs despite the change in camera direction. The work is concentrated visually at the top assembly; the surrounding stone-faced chimney remains part of the existing setting.

Outcome

The later photograph shows a bright metal cover fitted across the chimney top, with a rectangular mesh-sided cap and a separate cylindrical vent component above it. The visible change is specific to the chimney-top assembly and is clearly distinguishable from the discolored surface in the comparison photograph.
